**NEW DELHI, February 26, 2025** – A month-long ordeal involving a misplaced Air India checked bag has sparked outrage online after passenger Pratik Rai (@praaatiiik) detailed his frustrating experience on X (formerly Twitter). Rai’s account, which has gone viral, describes how his bag, checked on a January 21st flight from Delhi to Bengaluru, vanished into Air India’s system.
Despite Air India’s online baggage tracking system initially showing the bag arriving in Bengaluru, Rai claims he received no updates and faced conflicting information from airline staff. While Air India Bangalore staff initially claimed the bag was in Bengaluru, subsequent calls revealed a communication breakdown between Delhi and Bengaluru teams.
After tweeting about the issue on January 23rd, Rai received calls from Air India’s social media and Bengaluru teams, and his case was allegedly prioritized. However, a week later, he learned his bag was never loaded onto the plane due to a tagging issue. He was then directed to Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 Lost & Found, only to discover the bag there contained another passenger’s belongings.
Rai’s subsequent attempts to retrieve his bag proved unsuccessful, prompting him to express his disappointment online. He highlighted the airline’s minimal compensation policy, based on weight, which he estimated would only amount to ₹3-4,000, far less than the bag’s value.
Air India responded to the viral thread on February 24th, promising to investigate. The following day, they announced they had located the bag and would arrange delivery.
Rai’s experience has resonated with many X users, who shared their own anxieties about lost luggage and criticized Air India’s handling of the situation. The incident follows other recent viral posts highlighting baggage-related issues with Indian airlines, underscoring ongoing concerns about baggage handling practices. (NDTV does not vouch for the claims in the X user’s post.)
