Wed Feb 26 18:09:51 UTC 2025: ## Actor Arrested in Andhra Pradesh for Promoting Animosity
**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** Veteran Telugu actor Posani Krishna Murali was arrested Wednesday night in Hyderabad by Annamayya district police on charges of promoting enmity between different groups. The arrest follows several complaints filed against the actor by leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) across Andhra Pradesh.
Murali, a former supporter of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), had been a vocal critic of the then-opposition leader and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, and Jana Sena Party president K. Pawan Kalyan before the 2024 elections. Following the NDA’s victory, he announced his retirement from politics.
The arrest was made under sections 196, 353 (2), and 111 read with 3 (5) of the BNS Act, which are cognizable and non-bailable offenses. Police reportedly served a notice to his family before transporting him to Rajampet. Murali reportedly claimed to be unwell and undergoing treatment.
The YSRCP has strongly condemned the arrest, accusing the NDA government of silencing criticism through intimidation. YSRCP general secretary Gadikota Srikanth Reddy stated the government was unable to tolerate criticism of its failures.
