**VILLUPURAM, Tamil Nadu – February 26, 2025** – Work began Wednesday on a ₹32.5 crore project to widen a key road in Tamil Nadu. Forest Minister K. Ponmudy laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the two-lane Vellimedupettai-Mailam Road into a four-lane highway.
The 5km stretch, funded under the Chief Minister Road Development Programme (CMRDP) for 2023-24, is expected to be completed within 12 months. The project, overseen by the State Highways Department, will include improvements such as LED lighting, a tiled footpath, and a stormwater drain. The upgraded road, connecting Puducherry, is anticipated to increase bus services, including inter-state routes. Collector Shiek Abdul Rahman accompanied the minister at the groundbreaking ceremony in Thazhuthali near Tindivanam.
