Wed Feb 26 14:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Shah Assures South India No Loss of Parliamentary Seats After Delimitation

**COIMBATORE, INDIA –** Union Home Minister Amit Shah today allayed fears in southern India regarding the upcoming delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, assuring that no state in the south will lose a single seat. Speaking at the inauguration of BJP party offices in Coimbatore and Tiruvannamalai, Shah stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to ensuring a fair share for southern states in any increase in seats following the exercise.

Shah’s comments come amidst growing concerns in Tamil Nadu, fueled by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s recent meeting on the issue. Stalin and his son, Udhayanidhi Stalin, have claimed that Tamil Nadu could lose up to eight of its 39 Lok Sabha seats due to the delimitation, citing the state’s success in population control. Shah dismissed these claims as attempts to distract the public, reiterating the Modi government’s commitment to a pro-rata allocation of seats that would prevent any reduction in representation for southern states.

Southern states have expressed apprehension that population-based delimitation, which favors states with higher population growth, could diminish their voice in Parliament. Shah’s assurance aims to quell these anxieties ahead of the crucial delimitation process.
