Tue Feb 25 21:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Ducks Acquire Goalie Husso from Red Wings in Injury-Driven Trade

**Anaheim, CA** – The Anaheim Ducks announced Monday the acquisition of veteran goaltender Ville Husso from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for future considerations. The move comes after Ducks starter John Gibson suffered an injury during Saturday’s game against the Boston Bruins.

Husso, 30, will initially report to the Ducks’ AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls. His arrival provides much-needed depth in net for Anaheim, though his long-term role remains uncertain. The goaltender is in the final year of a three-year contract with a $4.75 million cap hit.

While Husso has a history of inconsistent performance, most notably a 1-5-2 record and a 3.69 goals-against average earlier this season, his availability on an expiring contract made him a sought-after trade target. He’s never played more than 56 games in a season, achieving a 26-win campaign in 2022-23 with the Red Wings. Earlier this season, he was even sent down to Detroit’s AHL affiliate as the Red Wings opted for Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon in net. The Ducks will likely assess Husso’s capabilities in the AHL before deciding on his role with the main roster.
