**Raipur, February 26, 2025** – Over 33,700 fatalities and 70,255 injuries resulted from 79,523 road accidents in Chhattisgarh over the past six years, the state government revealed in the Assembly on Tuesday. The figures were presented in response to a question from BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar during the Budget Session.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s written reply detailed that 848 accident-prone “black spots” have been identified, with corrective actions undertaken at 790 locations. The government also highlighted that Ayushman Bharat cardholders are eligible for free medical treatment for road accident injuries within prescribed limits. Furthermore, the state has adopted a new central scheme increasing compensation for hit-and-run victims to ₹2 lakh for death and ₹50,000 for serious injury.
