**Washington D.C. –** Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced the termination of over 100 intelligence officers from 15 agencies for engaging in sexually explicit conversations on a government-run chat platform managed by the National Security Agency (NSA). The officers will also have their security clearances revoked.
The platform, intended for classified discussions, was misused for inappropriate conversations, including discussions about gender transition surgery, according to intelligence officials. The misuse was first revealed by conservative activist Christopher Rufo.
Gabbard called the actions an “egregious violation of trust” and a breach of professional standards. She stated that this is only the beginning of a broader effort to root out misconduct within the intelligence community, aiming to “clean house” and rebuild public trust. A memo has been issued to all intelligence agencies demanding the identification of any further participants in these chats by Friday.
The NSA acknowledged the ongoing investigations into the misuse of its systems, emphasizing that the actions of a small group do not reflect the entire intelligence community.
Separately, Gabbard’s office and the CIA have initiated dismissals of employees involved in diversity initiatives under the previous Biden administration. However, a federal judge has temporarily halted these actions pending a ruling expected Thursday. Unlike the explicit chat case, no wrongdoing has been alleged against these employees, some of whom have filed lawsuits.
Gabbard’s actions follow reports of additional misconduct within the intelligence community, further solidifying her commitment to refocusing on the agency’s core mission. As DNI, Gabbard oversees 18 intelligence agencies with a $100 billion budget and advises President Trump on national security matters.
