**LAHORE, PAKISTAN** – Over 100 Punjab Police officers have been dismissed for refusing to perform security duties during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, police announced Tuesday. The officers, from various police departments, were tasked with protecting cricket teams travelling between Gaddafi Stadium and their hotels but were either absent or refused their assignments.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Usman Anwar ordered the dismissals, stating there is zero tolerance for negligence during international events. While official reasons for the refusal remain unstated, local media reports suggest the officers were overworked.
The dismissals come as Pakistan’s cricket team has been eliminated from the tournament. However, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has dismissed reports of any terror threats to the event, stating that the Champions Trophy is being peacefully and successfully hosted in Pakistan.
