Wed Feb 26 11:30:00 UTC 2025: **Yankees Reliever Effross Suffers Hamstring Injury in Spring Training**
FORT MYERS, FL – New York Yankees reliever Scott Effross suffered a hamstring injury Tuesday afternoon during a spring training game against the Minnesota Twins. The injury occurred after just one pitch in the eighth inning, forcing Effross to leave the field with the assistance of a trainer.
Effross, who has overcome numerous setbacks including back surgeries and Tommy John surgery, had been enjoying a strong start to spring training before the injury. Manager Aaron Boone expressed hope that the injury isn’t serious, stating, “Just kind of grabbed on him there…Hopefully it’s not something that holds him down too long because he’s done a lot of good work to get to this point.”
The Yankees are awaiting the results of further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the hamstring injury and the length of Effross’s recovery time. This latest setback is a significant blow for the right-hander, who only pitched in three games last season following his recovery from Tommy John surgery and a microdiscectomy. He had finally enjoyed a healthy offseason after several years of rehabilitation. The Yankees were counting on Effross to be a key part of their bullpen in 2025.
