**NEW DELHI** – The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has dramatically lowered the qualifying percentile for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2024, reducing the minimum requirement to just the 5th percentile for all categories. This significant reduction, announced by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on its official website, applies to General/EWS, UR-PwBD, SC/ST/OBC (including PwBD of SC/ST/OBC) candidates.
The NBEMS clarified that this change does not affect the NEET-PG 2024 ranks and percentile scores published on August 23rd, 2024. Candidature remains provisional, contingent upon fulfilling all eligibility criteria outlined in the NEET-PG 2024 information bulletin.
This marks a substantial decrease from earlier this year when the MCC lowered the cut-off to 15th percentile for General and EWS categories and 10th percentile for SC, ST, OBC, and PwD categories. The initial cut-off was set at 50th percentile for unreserved categories, 45th for PwD, and 40th for reserved categories.
The drastic reduction in the qualifying percentile is expected to significantly increase the number of candidates eligible for counselling for MD/MS/DNB/DrNB (Direct 6 years)/NBEMS Diploma courses for the 2024-25 academic session. NEET PG 2024 was conducted on August 11th, 2024. Aspirants meeting the revised criteria are advised to visit the official MCC website for details on the counselling process.
