Wed Feb 26 11:10:00 UTC 2025: ## MSNBC Shakes Up Primetime Lineup, Parts Ways with Joy Reid
**NEW YORK** – MSNBC announced a major overhaul of its primetime schedule, effective April, including the departure of longtime host Joy Reid. The network cited a desire to capitalize on recent viewership gains and position itself for future growth as reasons for the sweeping changes.
The restructuring will see several key shifts:
* **Jen Psaki** will anchor the 9 p.m. hour Tuesday through Friday, expanding her current role.
* **Rachel Maddow** will return to hosting the 9 p.m. slot on Mondays.
* **Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez** will take over the 7 p.m. hour Tuesday through Friday, and host a two-hour block on Mondays. This follows the cancellation of Joy Reid’s “The ReidOut.”
* A new trio of co-hosts will take over “The Weekend” program’s 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. slots. Ayman Mohyeldin’s solo show will be discontinued.
* Several other hosts, including Ali Velshi, Ana Cabrera, Chris Jansing, and Katy Tur will see expanded airtime.
The network’s Miami-based operations will be shut down, ending “José Díaz-Balart Reports” and “The Katie Phang Show,” though both hosts will remain with MSNBC in other capacities.
MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler stated the changes aim to maintain the network’s momentum and adapt to the evolving media landscape. While the network is consolidating production in New York and Washington D.C., Kutler assured employees that over 100 new jobs would be created, ultimately resulting in a net increase in employment. She also denied rumors that Reid’s departure was politically motivated. The changes coincide with Comcast’s plan to spin off MSNBC into a separate company.
