**LOS ANGELES, CA** – Disney+ subscribers can now embark on a new adventure with Moana. The highly anticipated sequel, “Moana 2,” which initially began as a Disney+ series before being retooled into a theatrical release, is now available for streaming.
The film, which raked in over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing movie of 2024, reunites Auli’i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui. Three years after their initial adventure, the pair, alongside a new crew of seafarers, face an unprecedented challenge when Moana receives a call from her ancestors. This leads them on a perilous journey to unexplored waters in Oceania.
Directed by the debuting trio of David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, “Moana 2” features new music by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, taking over from Lin-Manuel Miranda. The film also stars Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, David Fane, Hualālai Chung and Rose Matafeo.
Variety’s Owen Gleiberman praised the film’s vibrant visuals and action, noting the “flow of movement that keeps your eyeballs dancing,” even if Moana’s character arc is less prominent this time around.
