**SHIMOGGA, INDIA (February 26, 2025)** – Vijay, the lone male tiger at the Thyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari near Shivamogga, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 17. According to a press release from the safari, the tiger, a lifelong resident born at the facility, died of natural causes due to old age.
Vijay’s death leaves the safari without any male tigers. Safari staff had observed a decline in his physical activity and appetite for over a month, along with hind muscle disintegration. His body was disposed of according to established protocol.
The safari is home to four female tigers: Dashami (17), Sita (16), Poornima (12), and Nivedita (12). Located on the Shivamogga-Sagar Road, the 200-hectare safari attracts approximately 1,000 visitors daily. Vijay had been a popular attraction throughout his life at the safari.
