Wed Feb 26 09:01:55 UTC 2025: ## Kerala Averts Summer Power Crisis with Power Swap Deals

**THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, February 26, 2025** – The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has secured crucial power supply agreements with Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) to prevent electricity shortages during the upcoming summer months. Anticipating a surge in demand due to increased air conditioner usage, KSEB has arranged “power swap” deals, essentially cashless transactions where power is exchanged to balance surplus and deficit situations.

Under the agreements, awaiting final approval from the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC), PSPCL will supply 100 megawatts (MW) between midnight and 5 a.m. and 200 MW between 6:30 p.m. and midnight from March 1st to March 31st and April 1st to April 15th. UPPCL will provide additional power during various time slots in March, April, and May, including 500 MW during peak evening hours. KSEB will reciprocate by supplying power to PSPCL and UPPCL during the monsoon months (June-September) when Kerala’s demand is lower. These swap deals supplement other power purchase agreements already in place to manage the summer peak demand.
