Wed Feb 26 09:39:20 UTC 2025: ## Kolkata KMC Recalls Erroneous School Holiday List Amidst Political Row

**Kolkata, February 26, 2025** – The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has retracted a holiday list for Hindi Medium KMCP schools after admitting to procedural errors. A corrigendum was issued cancelling the original notification, citing typographical errors and a lack of proper authorization. The KMC stated that disciplinary action will be taken against the responsible officer and a revised list, aligned with state government guidelines, will be released shortly.

However, the initial holiday list, and its subsequent cancellation, has ignited a political firestorm. BJP leader Amit Malviya has accused the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of manipulating holiday allocations for political gain, specifically alleging the removal of a Vishwakarma Puja holiday and its replacement with an extended Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

Malviya, in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), criticized the move as evidence of the TMC’s “anti-OBC mindset” and an attempt to appease the Muslim vote bank. He further argued that the additional holidays negatively impact daily wage earners, both Hindu and Muslim. He linked this incident to previous controversies surrounding OBC reservations, claiming the TMC government’s policies are detrimental to the social fabric of West Bengal. The TMC government has yet to officially respond to these accusations. The controversy continues to unfold, with the BJP vowing to ensure justice and the KMC promising a corrected holiday schedule.
