**Bengaluru, February 26, 2025** – A new guidance document, “Integrating Art Into Public Spaces,” aims to facilitate the incorporation of art into India’s rapidly expanding infrastructure. Released by global consulting firm Zinnov, in collaboration with Yamini Telkar, former head of the Art Programme at Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the document offers a practical handbook for navigating the process.
The initiative is timely, given India’s projected $1.72 trillion investment in infrastructure over the next five years. Zinnov CEO Pari Natarajan estimates that 1-2% of this could translate into $17-34 billion for art projects, creating a “golden age of public art.” The growing demand for office space, particularly in Bengaluru, further fuels this opportunity.
The document addresses key aspects of public art integration, including art selection, budget planning, regulatory compliance, maintenance, and decommissioning. It also highlights the importance of stakeholder engagement, as demonstrated by the BIAL project, where artists, architects, and the community collaborated from the outset. Telkar emphasized the need for seamless integration of art into the environment to spark meaningful change and noted that compromises often occur.
Zinnov is launching a three-year roadmap, following the “4 A’s” (Awareness, Advice, Assemble, and Action), to promote this initiative. They plan to collaborate with government agencies, corporations, and artists to build a robust ecosystem for public art, including training and support for curators and artists. The document is available online at [https://zinnov.org/publicspaces/guidance-document/](https://zinnov.org/publicspaces/guidance-document/). The launch event featured discussions with Telkar and sculptor Shanthamani Muddaiah, whose work “Medhoot” is installed at BIAL, highlighting the positive impact of such initiatives.
