Wed Feb 26 09:20:06 UTC 2025: **Government Website Corrects Misleading Ration Card Data for Tamil Nadu**

CHENNAI, February 26, 2025 – The Union government’s Department of Food and Public Distribution (DFPD) has corrected inaccurate data on its National Food Security Act (NFSA) portal regarding “silent” ration cards in Tamil Nadu. The correction follows a February 20th report in *The Hindu* highlighting discrepancies.

The initial data on the portal indicated that 96.9 lakh out of 1,13,60,734 ration cards in Tamil Nadu were inactive, meaning cardholders hadn’t accessed their entitlements for three months. This represented approximately 85% of all cards.

However, the revised figures show a significantly lower number of inactive cards: only 3,25,670. This includes 22,519 Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cards and 3,03,151 Priority Household (PHH) cards. The DFPD has attributed the difference to a data error on its website.
