**Karaikal, Puducherry, February 26, 2025** – Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan has announced a comprehensive plan to revitalize the Karaikal Government Hospital. Key initiatives include the immediate return of medical personnel currently serving in Puducherry under a service placement program, addressing significant staffing shortages. The Lieutenant Governor stressed that this reallocation is crucial for improving healthcare services in the region.
Further improvements will include incentivizing postgraduate medical students to serve a year in government hospitals after graduation, potentially followed by contract employment. The expedited approval and construction of a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU), an AYUSH hospital, and outpatient facilities, all under a Central government scheme, are also underway.
Collaboration between the Karaikal Government Hospital and JIPMER-Karaikal is proposed to enhance medical expertise. Infrastructure upgrades will be supported by exploring Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding. To ensure consistent service, the hospital will implement an Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) for medical equipment. Essential repairs to the building’s roof, walls, and toilets are also scheduled for completion before the monsoon season. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the importance of improving the quality of service to rebuild public trust in the hospital.
