**Bengaluru, February 26, 2025** – Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC chief D.K. Shivakumar has defended his participation in the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, praising the arrangements and rejecting claims that his presence signals a shift towards the BJP.

Shivakumar, who took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, lauded the Uttar Pradesh government’s arrangements and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He emphasized his Hindu faith, stating, “I was born a Hindu and will die a Hindu,” while also asserting his respect for all religions. He further highlighted the Congress party’s inclusive philosophy, citing the examples of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi’s participation in various religious festivals.

Dismissing rumors fueled by social media, Shivakumar declared himself a “born Congressman” and insisted there is no truth to speculation about him joining the BJP. He also announced his intention to participate in the upcoming Shivaratri festival organized by the Isha Foundation. Shivakumar criticized the “politicization” of the Kumbh Mela.
