Wed Feb 26 16:35:47 UTC 2025: ## ₹10 Crore Koyambedu Market Renovation Planned

**Chennai, February 26, 2025** – The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has announced a ₹10 crore renovation project for the Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex (KWMC). The project, currently in the tender stage, is expected to be completed within eight months of the site handover.

Renovations will focus on cosmetic improvements and infrastructure upgrades. This includes painting and repairs to the compound wall, cycle stand, RO water stand, and the Koyambedu Market Management Committee office. Common areas such as walls near the food grain market and toilet blocks will also receive a fresh coat of paint. However, shop repairs are excluded as the shops have been privately sold, and pathway repairs are not included per the Tamil Nadu Budget.

The project will also see the construction of three new arches using concrete and clay Mangalore tiles, and the installation of new lighting, including high-mast lights, T-shaped light poles, street light poles, and LED floodlights. CMDA will deploy technical personnel to oversee the project and ensure adherence to building codes.

A subsequent project to repair surrounding roads is also planned, with the estimation process currently underway. Tenders for this additional work are being processed.
