**New Delhi, February 26, 2025** – Three distinguished practitioners of traditional Indian medicine were awarded the prestigious National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards by the Ministry of Ayush. The awards, presented on February 20th in Mumbai by Union Minister of State for Ayush (IC), Prataprao Jadhav, recognize exceptional contributions to the field.
This year’s recipients are Vaidya Tara Chand Sharma, a renowned Nadi Vaidya and author; Vaidya Maya Ram Uniyal, a scholar of Dravyaguna Vigyana with over six decades of service; and Vaidya Sameer Govind Jamadagni, founder of the Vishwa Vyakhyanmala national conference. Each recipient received a citation, a Dhanwantari statue trophy, and a ₹5 lakh cash prize.
Minister Jadhav lauded the recipients’ dedication to promoting Ayurveda globally, highlighting their work as a testament to India’s contribution to global healthcare and the integration of traditional wisdom with modern systems. Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha praised their modernization of Ayurveda while preserving its authenticity.
The Ministry’s statement detailed the significant contributions of each awardee. Vaidya Sharma’s authorship has advanced Ayurveda learning, while Vaidya Uniyal’s six decades of service and prolific writings have significantly impacted the field. Vaidya Jamadagni’s work in establishing platforms for Ayurveda education and fostering global dialogue was also highlighted. The awards, the ministry stated, represent India’s commitment to holistic healthcare and preserving traditional medical knowledge.
