Wed Feb 26 03:10:42 UTC 2025: **Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Workers Threaten Statewide Protests Over Promotion Delays**
Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – February 26, 2025 – The Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APPTD) Employees Union has issued an ultimatum to the state government, threatening statewide protests in March if pending promotions for approximately 3,000 APSRTC employees are not addressed.
In a letter to the APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, the union cited an eight-year delay in promotions, despite a government recommendation. The union claims the delay stems from the government awaiting legal advice and has resulted in eligible employees retiring without receiving their deserved promotions. The union alleges this situation negatively impacts the corporation’s efficiency, as it’s being managed by in-charge officers unable to make critical decisions.
The union also requested special casual leave for women employees on International Women’s Day (March 8th), to be considered an “on-duty” day, highlighting the significant number of women conductors within the APSRTC. The union appealed for a celebration and felicitation of female employees across all depots and units. The protests are scheduled for March if the promotion issue remains unresolved.
