Tue Feb 25 17:37:02 UTC 2025: ## Macron Announces Imminent Ukraine Peace Deal Following Trump Meeting

**Washington, D.C.** – French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that a ceasefire and subsequent peace agreement in Ukraine are highly likely within weeks, following a lengthy meeting with former US President Donald Trump in Washington D.C. Macron, representing the European Union’s shared security concerns, stated that Trump’s involvement is a “game-changer” in negotiations.

Macron detailed a phased approach to peace. The first step involves US-Russia negotiations, followed by US-Ukraine talks. Trump has reportedly agreed to a short meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky, a development Macron called “super important.” A subsequent ceasefire, encompassing land, air, and sea, is crucial, with strict adherence by Russia being paramount to prove their commitment to peace.

The next phase will focus on security guarantees from Russia, territorial issues, and a process for Ukraine to secure its interests. In exchange for US involvement, Washington will secure a deal on rare earth minerals and other critical materials – a concession Macron believes will ensure continued US commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty.

Macron acknowledged concerns about Russia violating any future treaty. While NATO membership for Ukraine remains a contentious issue, he proposed two options: strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities or a joint deployment of French and British troops to Ukraine, not for combat, but as a deterrent to Russia. This would require US backing.

Macron also stated that Europe is prepared to bear its share of the burden, having already secured support from numerous European leaders for a joint defence structure. However, he emphasized the need for a clear US guarantee of support in the event of future Russian aggression. He stated that Trump has given this guarantee.

The announcement comes three years after the start of the war in Ukraine, which has caused immense human suffering and economic devastation, with reconstruction costs estimated at $524 billion.
