Wed Feb 26 08:19:12 UTC 2025: ## Sudanese Military Plane Crash Kills at Least 19

**Cairo, Sudan – February 26, 2025** – A Sudanese military Antonov aircraft crashed in Omdurman on Tuesday, killing at least 19 people and injuring five others, according to military and health officials. The plane went down while taking off from Wadi Sayidna air base, north of Omdurman, the sister city of Khartoum.

The military confirmed that both military personnel and civilians were among the casualties, but did not provide a specific breakdown or disclose the cause of the crash. The Health Ministry, however, stated that at least 19 bodies were transported to Nau hospital in Omdurman, adding that the plane crashed onto a civilian house in the Karrari district.

This incident comes amid ongoing civil war in Sudan, which began in 2023 between the military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group. The conflict has resulted in widespread destruction and numerous atrocities, including war crimes and crimes against humanity, according to the UN and international rights groups. Recent months have seen intensified fighting, with the military gaining ground against the RSF. The RSF, meanwhile, claimed responsibility for shooting down a military aircraft in Nyala on Monday. The cause of Tuesday’s crash remains under investigation.
