Mon Feb 24 19:00:35 UTC 2025: ## Madras High Court Restrains Teachers’ Union From Protests
**Madurai, February 25, 2025** – The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has temporarily restrained the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisation and Government Employees Organisation (JACTTO GEO) from conducting protests. The order follows a public interest litigation petition filed by B. Ramkumar Adityan, citing disruptions caused by previous JACTTO GEO demonstrations.
The court heard arguments that the union planned statewide protests on February 25th to demand the withdrawal of the new pension scheme and reinstatement of the old one. The petitioner argued that such protests infringe on the rights of other citizens and cause significant national losses.
The State government informed the court that a committee of ministers is currently in talks with JACTTO GEO. Taking this into account, the court adjourned the hearing for four weeks, issuing the temporary restraining order until further notice. The court’s decision emphasizes the established legal principle that there is no right to strike that infringes upon the fundamental freedoms of others.
