Mon Feb 24 20:55:07 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Teachers and Govt Employees Reject Govt’s Plea, Threaten Statewide Agitation

**Chennai, February 25, 2025** – Talks between the Tamil Nadu government and the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisation—Government Employees Organisation (JACTTO-GEO) ended without resolution on Monday, February 24, 2025. Despite a meeting with four state ministers, JACTTO-GEO rejected the government’s request for a four-month delay in addressing their demands.

The association, representing thousands of teachers and government employees, had initially planned roadblocks but will now proceed with agitations at all district headquarters, utilizing casual leave. State coordinator Srinivasan stated that the government hasn’t rejected their demands but only requested more time, prompting the planned action. Following Tuesday’s protests, JACTTO-GEO will meet to decide on further action. The association emphasized their willingness to negotiate but said that continued inaction necessitated the protests. The Madras High Court’s Madurai Bench issued an order earlier in the day urging the postponement of protests, but the JACTTO-GEO proceeded with their decision. This comes after similar unsuccessful talks last year concerning the same demands.
