**Chennai, India – February 25, 2025** – Tamil Nadu and Connecticut signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to strengthen economic cooperation, focusing on manufacturing and biosciences. The agreement, witnessed by Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont and Tamil Nadu Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa, marks the beginning of a collaborative partnership aimed at fostering economic growth in both states.

Governor Lamont emphasized the shared values and strategic interests between India and the United States, highlighting the strong Indian diaspora in Connecticut and expressing interest in expanding business opportunities in Tamil Nadu. He lauded Tamil Nadu’s innovation and described Connecticut as similarly focused on creating a business-friendly environment.

Daniel O’Keefe, Connecticut’s Economic and Community Development Commissioner, detailed the MoU’s goals, including a 90-day action plan and the formation of a working group to facilitate ongoing collaboration. He highlighted the significance of the agreement as a crucial first step in a long-term partnership.

Minister Rajaa showcased Tamil Nadu’s economic strengths, citing its leading role in India’s manufacturing sector, high number of patents filed, and prominent position in electronics, healthcare, and tourism. He also emphasized the state’s highly skilled workforce, particularly its large number of women in the organized sector and its robust higher education system producing a significant number of engineers and PhDs annually. He stressed Tamil Nadu’s focus on attracting high-value investments that create high-end jobs. The event was attended by several business leaders from both states, including former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi.
