**NEW DELHI, February 25, 2025** – The Supreme Court granted pre-arrest bail on Tuesday to two leaders of the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) accused of vandalism in Andhra Pradesh. Former Minister and MLA Jogi Ramesh, accused of vandalizing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence in 2021, and YSRCP Vijayawada East coordinator Devineni Avinash, accused of ransacking the Telugu Desam Party’s office in October 2021, were both granted bail.
The court’s decision came after arguments from the defense, which claimed the cases were politically motivated and investigations only began after a change in government. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Mr. Avinash, highlighted the involvement of over 80 people in the alleged attack and the minor nature of injuries sustained, contradicting the FIR. He also stated that Mr. Avinash was not identifiable in CCTV footage. Senior advocate Siddharth Dave represented Mr. Ramesh.
The Andhra Pradesh government, represented by Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra, opposed the bail, citing the accused’s lack of cooperation with the investigation and alleging an attempt by Mr. Avinash to leave the country.
Despite the government’s objections, the Supreme Court granted the bail, ordering the petitioners to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, surrender their passports, and refrain from leaving the country without informing the investigating officer.
