**SANTA MONICA, CA** – Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Performance at the 40th Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday, for his role in Jesse Eisenberg’s *A Real Pain*. The award, Culkin’s first Spirit Award, was accepted on his behalf by presenter Kathryn Hahn. Culkin, currently starring in the Broadway production of *Glengarry Glen Ross* (opening March 10th), was unable to attend the ceremony.

This win follows Culkin’s recent Golden Globe win in the same category and his first ever Oscar nomination for the same performance. He beat out a strong field of nominees including Yura Borisov, Joan Chen, Danielle Deadwyler, Carol Kane, Karren Karagulian, Kani Kusruti, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin, and Adam Pearson.

Other notable Spirit Award winners included Maisy Stella (Breakthrough Performance, *My Old Ass*) and *Shogun* (Best New Scripted Series).
