**Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand:** Maha Shivratri, falling on February 26th this year, marks not only a significant Hindu festival but also the anniversary of the celestial wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. According to Shiv Purana, the divine couple united on this auspicious day.

The wedding, a momentous occasion in Hindu mythology, involved a series of captivating events. Parvati’s unwavering devotion led to Shiva eventually accepting her hand in marriage, despite initial hesitations. Her family’s initial apprehension upon seeing Shiva’s unconventional entourage was overcome by divine intervention.

Lord Brahma himself officiated the ceremony, conducting the rituals with utmost piety. Lord Vishnu played the role of Parvati’s brother, adding another layer of divine significance to the event. The wedding took place at the Triyuginarayan Temple in the sacred town of Guptkashi, Rudraprayag, situated at an altitude of 1980 meters, at the confluence of the Sona Ganga and Mandakini rivers. The temple, known for its eternally burning sacred fire (Akhand Dhuni), features four sacred ponds – Saraswati Kund, Rudra Kund, Vishnu Kund, and Brahma Kund.
