**Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh –** One civilian was killed and several others injured in an attack on a Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar on Monday, February 24, 2025. The Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) directorate confirmed that unidentified assailants launched a surprise attack on the base near Samiti Para around midday.

Thirty-year-old Shihab Kabir, a local trader, died in the ensuing clash with security personnel who repelled the attack. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, although reports suggest the attack may be linked to opposition to an airport expansion project requiring local relocations.

The attack followed an early morning press conference by Home Affairs Adviser, retired Lieutenant General M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who stated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order amidst claims that supporters of the deposed Awami League government are attempting to destabilize the country. He announced the continuation of “Operation Devil Hunt,” a two-week crackdown that has already resulted in over 8,600 arrests of alleged gang members linked to the ousted regime. The operation is in response to a reported doubling of robberies in Dhaka since January 2024. Concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation have been raised by students who played a key role in the toppling of the Awami League government last year.
