Tue Feb 25 02:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Shami Sets Unwanted Record in India’s Champions Trophy Victory
**Dubai, UAE** – India’s star pacer Mohammed Shami etched his name into the record books on Sunday, but not for the reasons he’d prefer. In a match against Pakistan during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Shami bowled the longest over by an Indian bowler in ODI history, delivering an astonishing 11 balls due to five wides. This makes him the third Indian to bowl an over of 11 balls or more in an ODI, following Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan. While the record was ultimately surpassed by Bangladesh’s Hassibul Hossain and Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Panyangara, who both bowled 13-ball overs, Shami’s performance still stands as the longest over bowled by an Indian in the Champions Trophy.
Despite this unusual start, India went on to secure a comfortable six-wicket victory over Pakistan. India dismissed Pakistan for 241, with Saud Shakeel (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (46) offering some resistance. Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) and Hardik Pandya (2/31) led India’s bowling attack. India’s chase was anchored by Virat Kohli’s century (100 not out), along with contributions from Shubman Gill (46) and Shreyas Iyer (56). The win virtually guarantees India a semi-final berth.
Shami’s performance came after a return to the Indian squad following ankle surgery and a 14-match absence. He recently celebrated a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh, becoming India’s highest-ever wicket-taker in ICC events with 60 dismissals.
