Tue Feb 25 05:52:17 UTC 2025: **Telangana Tunnel Collapse: Trapped Workers Located via Phone Signal**

HYDERABAD, February 25, 2025 – A major rescue operation is underway following a partial collapse inside a 44km-long tunnel of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) in Telangana. The incident, which occurred 13.5 km from the tunnel’s entrance and 400 meters below the Amrabad Tiger Reserve, has trapped several workers.

According to Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the location of the trapped individuals was pinpointed after a ringing mobile phone belonging to one of the workers was detected. The rescue efforts have been hampered by debris, slush, and water seepage, making vertical drilling from the top impossible.

Multiple agencies, including the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Singareni Collieries Coal Limited (SCCL), NDRF, SDRF, and a specialized team of rat miners, are involved in the rescue. Sniffer dogs were also deployed but were unable to access the affected area due to the water. The damaged conveyor belt, usually used for removing debris, is currently under repair. Minister Reddy oversaw rescue operations on Monday.
