Tue Feb 25 14:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Shiffrin Makes History, Wins 100th World Cup Ski Race

**SESTRIERE, Italy** – Mikaela Shiffrin etched her name into skiing history on Sunday, becoming the first Alpine skier to win 100 World Cup races. The American star’s victory in the Slalom event at Sestriere, Italy, capped a remarkable comeback from a serious crash last November that left her with a punctured abdomen and significant trauma.

Shiffrin dominated the race, finishing 0.61 seconds ahead of Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutic. The win is particularly poignant, as her initial attempt to reach the milestone ended in a devastating fall. She underwent a two-month recovery period, returning to competition in January with a 10th-place finish.

“Everybody’s been so nice and so supportive,” Shiffrin said in a post-race press conference. “I’m so grateful. Thank you. And the fans, thank you.”

Her achievement has been lauded by fellow skiers, including Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Pröll, who holds 62 World Cup wins. Moser-Pröll declared Shiffrin “the best ever.”

Shiffrin’s incredible journey spans 14 years and 278 World Cup starts, beginning at just 16 years old. Her 100 wins comprise 63 slalom victories and 37 in other disciplines. She previously broke Ingemar Stenmark’s record of 86 wins in 2023. Her Olympic accolades include gold medals from the 2014 Sochi and 2018 Pyeongchang Games. At 18, she became the youngest ever Olympic slalom gold medalist. At 29, she continues to redefine excellence in Alpine skiing.
