Tue Feb 25 14:25:04 UTC 2025: ## Mangaluru City Corporation Approves ₹180.7 Crore Surplus Budget
**Mangaluru, February 25, 2025** – The Mangaluru City Corporation council passed a ₹180.7-crore surplus budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year during a special meeting on Tuesday. The budget, presented by Kadri Manohar Shetty, chairman of the standing committee for taxation, finance, and appeals, projects a ₹741.25 crore revenue against an expenditure of ₹886.33 crore, starting with an opening balance of ₹325.78 crore.
Key revenue streams include property taxes (₹95.91 crore), water bills (₹55 crore), and solid waste management cess (₹25 crore). Other significant revenue sources include trade licence fees, building licence fees and premium FAR, advertisement revenue, and change of khata fees. The corporation also anticipates ₹29.19 crore from the 15th Finance Commission.
The budget allocates funds for various infrastructure projects, including footpath construction, garden development, street light installation, public toilet maintenance, stormwater drain (SWD) construction, underground sewage pipeline laying, rainwater harvesting, and sanitation improvements.
However, the corporation is awaiting the release of ₹92.5 crore from the State government under the Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Vikas Yojana. A significant portion of the budget, ₹49.37 crore, is earmarked for replacing the old underground drainage network in several areas. Further funds are allocated for upgrading sewage treatment plants and electro-mechanical equipment. An additional ₹9.25 crore is reserved for SWD maintenance and development to mitigate flooding.
