**Puducherry, February 25, 2025** – The Puducherry police launched “Makkal Mandram,” a new initiative aimed at improving public relations and addressing public grievances, at an event on Monday. Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan urged police officers to maintain a balance between firmness with anti-social elements and friendliness towards the public. He emphasized the importance of public trust and ensuring justice to build a peaceful society.

The launch included the installation of complaint boxes in schools, a move prompted by concerns over offences against children. The Lt. Governor advocated for expanding this to all educational institutions. He also highlighted the use of grievance boxes at Raj Nivas, personally addressing sensitive complaints.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy acknowledged the government’s efforts in addressing police manpower shortages, urging the force to prioritize crime prevention and improved traffic management.

Makkal Mandram will feature weekly public grievance meetings in every sub-division’s police stations, including Law and Order, traffic, and cyber police stations. The initiative, initially piloted for two months, aims to foster greater transparency and strengthen the relationship between the police and the community.
