**Bengaluru, India (February 21, 2025)** – A workshop held in Bengaluru brought together healthcare leaders, researchers, and tech specialists to address critical barriers hindering access to effective antibiotics. Organized by the Trinity Challenge and the One Health Trust, the event focused on two key issues: inadequate stock control and the prevalence of substandard or falsified oral antibiotics. These problems significantly impact both human and animal health.
Experts discussed challenges related to antibiotic stock management at local and national levels, and explored methods for identifying counterfeit medications. Participants collaborated to design and test potential solutions, presenting their prototypes at the workshop’s conclusion.
Professor Marc Mendelson, Director of the Trinity Challenge, highlighted the workshop as a crucial step towards ensuring communities receive appropriate antibiotics. Professor Ramanan Laxminarayan, founder and president of the One Health Trust, emphasized the need for diverse expertise and creative thinking to combat antimicrobial resistance.
The workshop coincided with the launch of the Trinity Challenge’s new global innovation competition, focused on community access to effective antibiotics. The competition offers a prize fund of up to £1 million for data-driven solutions.
