Mon Feb 24 22:17:08 UTC 2025: ## Musk Faces Backlash for Accusing Muslim Aid Groups of Terrorism

**Washington D.C. –** Elon Musk is facing intense criticism for amplifying claims that several US-based Muslim aid organizations are linked to terrorism. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has strongly condemned Musk’s remarks, labeling them as reckless, dangerous, and fueling Islamophobia.

On Sunday, Musk retweeted a post alleging that the US Agency for International Development (USAID) had funneled over $164 million to terrorist organizations, including American Near East Refugee Aid, the Arab American Institute, the Islamic Relief Agency, and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. He questioned why the US would fund groups it claims to hate.

CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad responded swiftly, denouncing Musk’s assertions as baseless and harmful. Awad stated that such rhetoric endangers innocent lives and undermines principles of justice and equality. CAIR emphasized that these organizations are legitimate non-profits, many of which have partnered with the US government in the past. The group argued that associating any Muslim charity with terrorism reflects ignorance and fuels prejudice.

CAIR further criticized Musk for his selective targeting, highlighting the billions of dollars in US aid to Israel’s military operations, citing a Brown University study estimating at least $22.76 billion since October 7, 2023. This, they contend, represents a significant disparity in Musk’s focus and raises questions about his motives. The organization demanded accountability and urged Musk to reconsider his actions. The controversy highlights the ongoing debate surrounding foreign aid and the impact of influential figures’ pronouncements on vulnerable communities.
