Tue Feb 25 05:32:33 UTC 2025: ## India Unveils First Hyperloop Test Track, Paving Way for High-Speed Travel

**Chennai, India** – India has taken a significant leap towards high-speed transportation with the unveiling of its first hyperloop test track. Developed by IIT Madras in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways, the 422-meter track marks a crucial step towards realizing the potential of this futuristic technology.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the completion of the project on X, highlighting the successful government-academia partnership driving innovation. The Minister expressed his optimism about the project’s future, hinting at further funding for IIT Madras to continue development.

The hyperloop system, described as the “fifth mode of transport,” uses electromagnetic levitation to propel pods through near-vacuum tubes, eliminating friction and air resistance. This allows for speeds potentially reaching Mach 1.0 (approximately 761 mph at sea level). The IIT Madras track has already demonstrated the capability to cover 350 km in just 30 minutes, implying travel times between cities like Delhi and Jaipur (around 300 km) could be reduced to under half an hour.

The Ministry of Railways plans to initiate the first commercial hyperloop project soon. The technology boasts several advantages, including immunity to weather conditions, collision-free travel, speeds exceeding those of airplanes, low energy consumption, and the potential for 24-hour operation. The successful completion of the test track signifies a major step towards transforming India’s transportation landscape and potentially revolutionizing long-distance travel.
