Tue Feb 25 09:15:02 UTC 2025: ## CPI(M) Road Blockage in Kannur Defies High Court Ruling
**Kannur, Kerala, February 25, 2025** – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) sparked controversy today by staging a major road blockade in Kannur, Kerala, despite a pending High Court case concerning a similar incident. The protest, held near the Head Post Office, involved erecting a pandal and stage on a main road, causing significant traffic disruption.
The demonstration, themed “Isn’t Kerala in India?”, accused the central government of economic discrimination against the state. While the protest caused significant traffic diversions, police have yet to intervene to clear the blockade. However, District Police Chief P. Nidhinraj confirmed that a case has been registered against several CPI(M) leaders and participants.
This action directly contradicts a recent Kerala High Court ruling. The court, hearing a contempt case related to a previous CPI(M) roadblock in Thiruvananthapuram, emphasized that while protests are a fundamental right, they cannot justify obstructing public roads or footpaths. The court summoned party leaders involved in that earlier incident. This latest protest, spearheaded by CPI(M) Central Committee member E.P. Jayarajan, follows a series of area marches in the district.
