Tue Feb 25 14:04:51 UTC 2025: **Congress and Other Groups Protest Shah’s Ambedkar Remarks in Coimbatore**
COIMBATORE, February 25, 2025 – Several political parties and social organizations staged black-flag demonstrations in Coimbatore today to protest Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on B.R. Ambedkar in Parliament. The protests, which took place at various locations across the city, targeted what demonstrators called the Minister’s casteist views and the BJP’s alleged lack of funding for education in Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, led by Selva Perunthagai, held a demonstration near Gandhi Park Roundabout. Protesters raised slogans condemning the Home Minister and the BJP, accusing them of a casteist agenda and demanding increased educational funding for the state. Similar protests were held by the All Progressive Movement near PSG College of Technology, the Dravida Viduthalai Kazhagam on Masakkalipalayam Road, and the Tamil Desiya Periyakkam in front of the South Taluk Office. The latter group also opposed the Centre’s three-language policy and new UGC norms. A joint protest by the DMK Students Wing and Students Movement Federation took place in front of the BSNL Head Office. All groups highlighted the alleged underfunding of education in Tamil Nadu as a key grievance.
