Tue Feb 25 14:59:42 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore to Create New Parking Spaces at Race Course

**COIMBATORE, INDIA (February 25, 2025)** – The Coimbatore Corporation has launched a project to alleviate parking woes in the city’s Race Course area. Work began Tuesday on a new parking facility utilizing 45 cents of vacant land between KG Circle and CSI Church Circle. The plan includes installing paver blocks and incorporating removable container-based eateries to generate revenue. A detailed project report and cost estimate are currently underway. The project’s initial phase involved removing three encroachments and clearing vegetation from the site.

Further addressing parking issues, the Corporation is also taking action against encroachments along the 2.25 km walking track, targeting houses and hotels illegally using Corporation land for visitor parking. Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran stated that these encroachments, including mini-lawns and other structures, will be removed to create additional public parking. The Corporation also plans to develop a larger, multi-level parking facility on a seven-acre plot near Thomas Park. These initiatives aim to address the growing need for organized parking in the area, easing roadside congestion and improving traffic flow.
