NEW DELHI — The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced plans to implement a twice-yearly examination schedule for Class 10 students, commencing in the 2026 academic year. This decision follows the board’s approval of draft norms, which are now open for public feedback until March 9th.

The proposed biannual exams will feature a first phase running from February 17th to March 6th, and a second phase from May 5th to 20th. Both exam sessions will cover the complete syllabus. While core subjects like Science, Math, Social Science, Hindi, and English will maintain a fixed examination day, other subjects will be grouped and tested either once or twice depending on student choice. Regional and foreign languages will be examined on a single day. The board anticipates approximately 26.60 lakh students to appear for the Class 10 exams in 2026. The Class 12 examinations will also be affected by the changes, and will begin on the first Tuesday after February 15th. The final policy will be determined following the public consultation period.
