**Varanasi, India** – Maha Shivratri, the grand festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, was observed with fervor across India today. Millions of devotees thronged Shiva temples nationwide, offering prayers and performing rituals to seek the blessings of the deity. The day holds special significance, with believers believing that Lord Shiva manifests in all Shiva lingams, accepting the devotion of his followers. Even Lord Vishnu, according to tradition, holds this day sacred.

Premanand Maharaj, a spiritual leader from Vrindavan (originally from Kashi), offered insights into gaining Lord Shiva’s grace on this auspicious occasion. He emphasized that devotion to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are interconnected, stating, “One who is a devotee of Hari (Vishnu) will also be a devotee of Hara (Shiva), and vice-versa.”

Maharaj highlighted the simplicity of pleasing Lord Shiva, stating that elaborate offerings aren’t necessary; a simple offering of water is enough. He suggested offerings of dhatura, bel patra leaves, akaude flowers, and Ganges water as particularly pleasing to the deity. He described Shiva as compassionate and benevolent, capable of bestowing knowledge, devotion, detachment, and whatever else one desires.

Quoting Lord Ram, Maharaj recounted a story emphasizing the importance of Shiva’s grace in achieving true devotion. He stressed the continuous remembrance of the deity as a powerful form of worship. He concluded by reassuring devotees that Lord Shiva readily accepts the sincere devotion of his worshippers.
