Mon Feb 24 17:15:09 UTC 2025: ## British Couple Detained in Afghanistan, Family Urges Government Intervention

**Kabul, Afghanistan/London, UK –** A British couple in their 70s, who dedicated 18 years to running educational programs in Afghanistan, have been detained by the Taliban, sparking urgent calls for government intervention. Barbie and Peter Reynolds, aged 75 and 79 respectively, were apprehended by the Taliban’s interior ministry on February 1st, according to their daughter, Sarah Entwistle.

Entwistle, speaking to Times Radio, revealed that contact with her parents was lost three days after their initial detention, despite earlier assurances of their wellbeing via text message. After more than three weeks of silence, the family is publicly appealing to the British government for action. “We’re now urgently calling on the British consulate to do everything in their power to get us answers and to put as much pressure as they can on the Taliban for their release,” Entwistle stated.

The Foreign Office confirmed it is supporting the family of two detained British nationals, but offered no further details. Reports from the BBC, citing Taliban sources, indicate the couple’s arrest stemmed from allegedly using a plane without prior notification to local authorities. They were reportedly detained alongside a Chinese-American friend and an Afghan translator.

The Reynolds, who continued their work even after the Taliban takeover in 2021, were reportedly arrested approximately 20 days ago in the central province of Bamiyan. The Taliban administration has yet to respond to requests for comment. The incident highlights the significant risks faced by foreign nationals in Afghanistan, where the British government advises against all travel.
