**New Delhi, February 24, 2025** – Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared a lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to eliminating terrorism-related deaths in the region. Addressing young people from Jammu and Kashmir participating in the Watan Ko Jano youth exchange program, Shah emphasized the equal rights of J&K residents across India.
Shah highlighted the significant progress made in J&K in the last 10 years, crediting the abrogation of Article 370 with fostering equality and integration. He cited the end of terrorism-related violence, including blasts and stone-pelting, the resumption of regular schooling, and the revival of cultural events like ‘tazia’ processions. He also pointed to the successful local body elections resulting in the election of 36,000 panch and sarpanch members.
The Home Minister underscored the significant infrastructural development, including the construction of the world’s tallest railway bridge and Asia’s longest tunnel, as well as the establishment of two AIIMS and two IIMs in the region. He also noted the addition of 24 colleges and eight universities over the past decade.
Shah urged the youth to continue their education, emphasizing the numerous opportunities available across the country due to government initiatives. He encouraged them to explore other parts of India, fostering a sense of national unity and belonging. The Minister concluded by stating that the entire country views the people of Jammu and Kashmir with love and respect, a sentiment underpinned by the prevailing peace and development in the region. He attributed the peace to the Modi government’s policies and stressed that the goal is a future where no life is lost to terrorism.
