**MYSURU, February 24, 2025** – A family of three, overwhelmed by debt, allegedly ended their lives by jumping into the VC canal in Mandya district on Monday. Masthappa (52), an autorickshaw driver; his wife, Rathnamma (40); and their 14-year-old daughter, Lakshmi, were residents of Ganjam village in Srirangapatna taluk.
Police reports indicate that Masthappa, burdened by loans, drove his autorickshaw to Chandagalu village in Mandya taluk with his family before jumping into the canal. Locals witnessed the act and attempted a rescue, but were unsuccessful. While the bodies of Masthappa and Rathnamma have been recovered, the search for Lakshmi continues. Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi, visited the scene.
