**Hyderabad, Telangana – February 24, 2025** – A major rescue operation is underway in Telangana after a portion of a tunnel under construction for the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project collapsed on Saturday, trapping eight workers 14 kilometers inside. The incident occurred during excavation work using a tunnel boring machine (TBM) within the Alimineti Madhava Reddy Project in Nagarkurnool district.
As of 8 p.m. Sunday, there had been no breakthrough in the rescue efforts. A joint team comprising the Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Singareni Collieries personnel, and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) personnel are working tirelessly to reach the trapped workers. Experts who participated in the Silkyara tunnel collapse rescue in Uttarakhand are also assisting.
Telangana’s Irrigation Minister, N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, stated that dewatering and continuous oxygen supply are being implemented to ensure the survival of the trapped workers. The rescue operation, now over 30 hours long, continues with the full support of the Telangana government.
