Mon Feb 24 06:13:53 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Volunteers to Honor Student Volunteers at “Catalysts of Change” Awards

**Chennai, February 24, 2025** – Chennai Volunteers will hold its third annual “Catalysts of Change” awards ceremony today, recognizing the outstanding contributions of college student volunteers. The event, taking place at the Sacred Heart Tamil Medium Girls School auditorium from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., will celebrate the impactful work of students from 13 Chennai colleges.

The awards, first instituted in 2023, aim to inspire more young people to engage in volunteer work. This year’s ceremony is particularly significant, highlighting the crucial role students played in filling the volunteer gap created during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. While corporate volunteers were less readily available due to remote work, college students stepped up to support various initiatives, including education, environmental projects, and work with special needs populations.

Rinku Mecheri, founder of Chennai Volunteers, emphasized the students’ dedication and the personal growth they experienced through volunteering. She noted that many students were still adjusting to post-pandemic life, having missed significant in-person college experience.

This year’s event will feature Australia’s Consul General in Chennai, Silai Zaki, as the chief guest, and N. Ravi, Director of The Hindu, as the guest of honor. Awards will be presented to both individual students and teams, recognizing leadership and empathy in their volunteer work.

The 13 participating colleges are: Loyola College, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women, Stella Maris College, Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women, Women’s Christian College, Sathyabhama Institute of Science & Technology, Madras School of Social Work, Anna Adarsh College for Women, Sri Krishnaswamy College for Women, MOP Vaishnav College, Madras Christian College, Shri Ramasaamy Memorial Institute of Science and Technology, and SA College.
