Mon Feb 24 16:48:07 UTC 2025: ## Russia Says Ready for Ukraine Talks, But on its Terms

**Ankara, Turkey –** On the third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated Russia’s willingness to negotiate an end to the conflict. However, Lavrov emphasized that Russia would only cease hostilities once a peace settlement fully meets Moscow’s conditions. He suggested that while the US appears open to negotiations, Europe is actively prolonging the war through continued sanctions.

Lavrov held talks in Turkey with his counterpart, Hakan Fidan, and indicated a willingness to negotiate with Ukraine, Europe, or any other good-faith intermediaries. He also called for the US to appoint a representative for future peace talks, following what he described as positive discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Saudi Arabia.

The Kremlin echoed Lavrov’s assessment, accusing Europe of wanting to prolong the conflict despite a reported willingness from the US to seek a resolution. This claim followed the EU’s imposition of a new round of sanctions against Russia. The situation remains uncertain, particularly given the anticipated change in US leadership under President Donald Trump and ongoing fighting on the Ukrainian front lines.
